How does it measure each activity?Updated 2 months ago
We use an accelerometer to track your cat's movement and measure which activity is which:
- Sleeping: Resting for more than 3 minutes or fully asleep
- Playing: Switching positions actively, running through obstacles, running quickly, or other active movements
- Jumping: Jumping at least 30cm (such as onto a chair or bed)
- Walking: Walking, standing, running slowly, or gently shaking their head
- Resting: Sitting or lying down
- Grooming: Actively cleaning claws or fur
(Other activities are also captured and calculated, so these 6 won't add up to 24h!)
Activities yet to come:
- Eating: Eating from food bowl
- Drinking: Drinking from water bowl or fountain
- Scratching: Using hind leg to scratch neck or ears
- Litter use: Squatting to toilet, digging / scratching to bury
We will be adding more activities as we go, so stay tuned!
Right now, Moggie measures each specific activity—like playing, resting, or walking— on its own rather than as part of a continuous session. This means that while you may spend a solid 15 minutes actively engaging with your cat, only certain active moments, like jumps or runs, will be logged as "play." Periods of rest or quieter movements will show separately.
Our goal is to refine this by recognizing patterns over time so that “play” reflects the full scope of interactive sessions. This approach will give you a more accurate perception of your cat's playtime and overall activity.
